ISED Canada regulates the radio spectrum for all transmitters operated in the country
ISED (Innovation, Science and Economic Development) Canada regulates the radio spectrum for all transmitters operated in the country and defines the requirements for approval and certification of radio, consumer electronics and communications devices. The ISED regulations covering radio devices are structured within RSS-GEN (General Requirements for Compliance of Radio Apparatus) which covers certification procedures, including technical and administrative requirements.
The certification process does not have to be carried out by laboratories in Canada, as ISED Canada has appointed Foreign Certification Bodies (FCB) across the world. FCBs have the authority to evaluate product test reports and issue technical acceptance certificates on behalf of ISED Canada.
Radio products can only be placed on the Canadian market once they comply with ISED Canada’s legal and technical requirements. After obtaining a Type Acceptance Certificate from an ISED FCB, an IC Number is issued by ISED and the product is placed on the Radio Equipment List (REL), after which it can be released onto the market. Without such certification, market access for Canada will not be granted for radio product manufacturers.
Our certification body, TÜV SÜD BABT, is a Foreign Certification Body (FCB) appointed under the EU – Canada Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA). We can therefore manage the entire certification process on behalf of manufacturers wishing to export to the Canadian market. As TÜV SÜD liaises with the authority and local representative on your behalf, and TÜV SÜD BABT is authorised to certify and approve devices for the Canadian market, this avoids the delays that can be experienced with applications made directly to ISED Canada.
TÜV SÜD BABT can issue ISED Type Acceptance Certificates for the following equipment categories:
