The CE mark is accepted as evidence of an electrical product’s compliance with EU consumer product safety directives. However, CE marking is often self-certified by the manufacturer and as such has not been validated by a trusted third party.
What is ENEC and ENEC+ certification?
The European Norms Electrical Certification (ENEC) is a valuable addition to CE marking. In the recent years the program has become more and more popular in the European Union. The certification program of the European Organization (European Testing Inspection Certification System, ETICS) includes product testing by an independent testing laboratory and certification by an independent certification body. In addition, the manufacturing sites that produce the ENEC and ENEC+ certified products are monitored by an independent certification body by conducting initial and regularly factory surveillances in accordance with the internationally recognized CIG program (https://www.cig-cert.com/). With an ENEC and ENEC+ certificate manufacturers and importers can show that their product complies with the requirements of the European standards (EN - within the framework of the Low Voltage Directive).
The ENEC scheme (https:\\www.enec.com) constitutes a full certification scheme as defined in ISO/IEC 17067:2013. It has gained popularity in the EU as a valuable complement to CE marking. The ENEC scheme allows manufacturers and importers to clearly demonstrate compliance with applicable product safety through testing by independent third-party electrical certification bodies.
Electrical products that have been ENEC certified have been independently assessed for their safety in accordance with European safety standards, thereby providing buyers with an increased level of confidence. Lighting products bearing the ENEC and ENEC+ marks have additionally been evaluated for relevant performance criteria, potentially eliminating the need for duplicate performance testing.
TÜV SÜD has been officially accepted by the European Testing Inspection Certification System (ETICS) to certify electrical products under the ENEC scheme, and to certify lighting products under the ENEC+ scheme.
In addition, TÜV SÜD’s global Energy Efficiency Centres of Excellence are equipped to test and certify lighting products to worldwide energy efficiency requirements and standards, making us a single source for testing and certification services for all types of commercial, industrial and residential lighting products.
TÜV SÜD offers a comprehensive suite of testing and certification services on the regulations, standards and voluntary energy efficiency and performance programs applicable to all types of lighting products.
