Industry: Chemical and Process
Sector Challenge: One of the key challenges in the oil and gas sector is ensuring that those who work in the industry have the right mix of knowledge and skills to drive the sector forward. At present, a gap exists, particularly for those who are new to the industry, in areas such as flow measurement, uncertainty and custody transfer.
In South East Asia, there is a growing need for this knowledge and, working with a specialist oil and gas industry training provider based in Malaysia, we are bringing the expertise of the UK’s Designated Institute for Flow and Density Measurement, based at TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory, to the region.
How Did TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory Help?: We have taken our specialist training on the road, offering the most popular training courses to companies and individuals in South East Asia. In the last 2 years, 15 individual training courses have been delivered by experts from the UK’s Designated Institute for Flow and Density Measurement, to over 130 attendees from across the oil and gas industry.
Focusing on flow measurement and its commercial importance, these courses provide an appreciation for all aspects of upstream flow measurement, including equipment requirements, calculations and industry best practice. In addition, training sessions can be tailored to meet the needs of the attendees and their organisations.
Sector Impact: These training courses are very popular with operators in the region, with attendees from Petronas, KPOC, ExxonMobil, Petrofac and Carigali Hess attending our 2019 sessions. Feedback is very good, with a recent attendee at the Introduction to Flow Measurement training course commenting that it provided a “good explanation of flow measurement technologies and selection criteria…very good information and useful for the industry”. Many of the companies sending students to these courses do so frequently, underlining the need for and value of our training offering to the sector.
The UK’s Designated Institute for Flow and Density Measurement will continue to drive the global provision of training at all levels across the oil and gas sector and beyond, addressing the gaps in flow measurement knowledge for the benefit of industry.
