Phase 1 comprises a block of 865 apartments, 17 storeys high and 350 metres long, a basement energy centre linked to serve Phase 2 and 3, a leisure centre, podium level offices and ground floor retail space.
Phase 2 of the development includes the creation of high-end retail space adjacent to the power station’s two turbine halls, as well as commercial office space and residential apartments. A total of 257 residential properties will be created on the upper levels, ranging from studios to five-bedroom apartments.
Pre-fabricated design has been used extensively throughout the design process, adding value to the project by streamlining the construction process. Corridor and riser modules were all prefabricated off site along with utility cupboards which have proved to be extremely successful in minimising on site installation periods. Other key challenges have included dealing with the Grade II listed façade interfaces on the main power station and dealing with the environmental issues that arise when refurbishing a 1930’s structure.
