Regulatory Update: New EMC Standard for Radio Communication Equipment in Vietnam

If you are a manufacturer or trader of radio communication equipment in Vietnam, you need to be aware of a new technical regulation that will come into effect on 1st May 2023. The regulation, known as QCVN 18:2022/BTTTT, sets out the requirements for electromagnetic compatibility EMC testing and certification for radio equipment.

What is QCVN 18:2022/BTTTT?

QCVN 18:2022/BTTTT is the National Technical Regulation on Electromagnetic Compatibility for Radio Equipment, approved by the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications on 29 November 2022. It applies to Vietnamese and foreign agencies, organisations and individuals engaged in the production and trading of radio communication equipment.

The regulation specifies the EMC test measurements, test methods, limits, and performance criteria for radio equipment. It also references the relevant sections of the EN 301 489 series of standards, which are harmonised under the European Radio Equipment Directive (RED). In case of any discrepancy between QCVN 18:2022/BTTTT and EN 301 489, the latter prevails.

The regulation covers a wide range of radio equipment, such as mobile phones, wireless routers, Bluetooth devices, radio transmitters and receivers, satellite terminals, radio frequency identification (RFID) devices and more.

Why is QCVN 18:2022/BTTTT important?

QCVN 18:2022/BTTTT is important because it ensures that radio equipment does not cause harmful interference to other devices or services and can operate reliably in its intended environment. This helps to protect the safety and health of users and the public, as well as to promote fair competition and market access.

QCVN 18:2022/BTTTT also aligns Vietnam's EMC requirements with international standards and best practices, facilitating trade and cooperation with other countries and regions.
