We’re pleased to share that a University of Glasgow research paper "An experimental investigation into the effect two-phase flow induced vibrations have on a J-shaped flexible pipe” has been published in the Journal of Fluids and Structures. The experimental research project looked at MUltiphase Flow-induced Fluid-flexible structure InteractioN in Subsea applications (MUFFINS) and was funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
Professor Gioia Falcone (Rankine Chair, Head of Energy and Sustainability Research Group) announced the paper’s publication on LinkedIn and gave a special mention to TÜV SÜD:
“We would like to acknowledge the team at TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory for their assistance with implementing the bespoke loop design.”
TÜV SÜD supported the University of Glasgow with its research on multiphase flow by modifying our advanced multiphase facility (AMF) to fit their testing requirements. The main aim was to look at how the flow inside the pipe reacted to the movement induced in the pipe itself. The demanding requirements of this test, including the extensive length of pipe required, resulted in the construction of a unique test rig the likes of which has never been seen before. It demonstrates clearly the adaptability of the AMF and is discussed in a video case study.
Dr Graeme Hunt, Research Associate at the University of Glasgow, complimented the TÜV SÜD facilities and staff:
“Working here has been an extremely positive experience. The technicians and other staff have been extremely helpful and understanding in facilitating our needs.”
