Lift Recycling Project Supports Local Homeless People

10 March 2023

Collaboration and Community Spirit Drive Success ofLift Recycling Homeless Charity Donation Recycling Project for Local Homeless People

In a heartwarming initiative, TÜV SÜD Dunbar Boardman in Leeds worked with one of their clients, a local social housing provider to raise money for charity. Proceeds raised by recycling 12 lifts that were set to be scrapped were donated to the Salvation Army in Pontefract. The £4,000 donation will be used to buy blankets, clothes, and tents for local homeless people, providing them with much-needed support during these challenging times.

Lewis Firth, Vertical Transportation Consultant, said:

“We’re proud to have been able to work with a local social housing provider on some of our lift replacement projects helping raise much needed cash through recycling old lift equipment. The money was donated to the Salvation Army in Pontefract, and will go a little way in helping the homeless stay warm this winter.”

Lewis worked with Richard Booth, Regional Director - Central, and Garry Asprey, Associate Director, to ensure the project's success.

We feel that this initiative is a great example of how small actions can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and make a positive impact on the local community. Our decision to recycle the lifts rather than scrapping them contributes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 to reduce waste and promote sustainable consumption and production. Donating the proceeds to the Salvation Army to support local homeless people aligns with the goal of reducing poverty (SDG 1).

Thanks to Image Co in Leeds, a local carbon neutral signage company putting sustainability at the heart of their business, for generously donating the presentation cheque.
