Reparability Index
Article 16 of Law No. 2020-105 of February 10, 2020 on the fight against waste and for the circular economy, set up the repairability index for electrical and electronic products. It has been mandatory since January 1, 2021 on five product categories (smartphones, laptops, televisions, lawn mowers, porthole washing machines) and since November 4, 2022 on four new product categories (top washing machines, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, high-pressure cleaners). Its purpose is to enlighten the consumer at the time of purchase on the more or less repairable nature of the product.
Durability Index
Its implementation, it plans to evolve by 2024 into a sustainability index which will have a more global approach with the addition of several criteria. It is in this context that ADEME just published a Preparatory study for the introduction of a durability index according to the evolution of the durability index within AGEC Law.
The recommendations resulting from this prefiguration study will serve as a basis for reflection on the work that will be carried out between 2021 and 2024, and which will be subject to change. The proposed action plan allows to prepare the launch of the sustainability index at the beginning of 2024.
The study reveals a first proposal for the composition of the sustainability index:
