Measurement Focus Group's December 2022 Meeting

Chris Mills chaired the last meeting of the year in Aberdeen. The presentations started with Andrew Wrath who spoke to the 52 attendees about the performance of SICK ultrasonic flow meters in hydrogen blends. He also discussed using speed of sound as a gas quality indicator for determining hydrogen concentration in real-time and the hidden human cost of green energy. TÜV SÜD’s Sandy Black presented research into data driven models undertaken by TÜV SÜD and the ability to predict GVF values in two-phase flows with labelled data. Gavin Munro, CEO at GM Flow Measurement Services Ltd, discussed the field trials that he is undertaking with Aramco to reduce the cost of metering at depleting wellheads highlighting the key role that TÜV SÜD played by providing wet-gas testing and CFD modelling for the adjustable cone meters being tested. The final paper was from Nigel Webster, CorVera LLC, who presented on speed of sound augmented Coriolis Meters.

We received some excellent feedback about the Measurement Focus Group and the direction people want to see it going in the future. Topics suggested included hydrogen & CCUS; renewables/emissions; density, viscosity & Coriolis; new technology; and machine learning & analytics.
