Singapore AVA updates labelling requirements for infant formulas

Singapore’s Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) has recently amended its food regulations to modify its requirements related to the labelling of prepacked infant formulas.

Published in mid-June, the amendment to Singapore’s Food Regulations (Rg 1) requires that prepacked infant formulas not contain any ingredient or additives that are already prohibited from use in infant formulas. Further, prepackaged infant formulas must now include labelling that details a specific or generic name of each and every ingredient used in the formula.

An additional change applies to the labelling of formulas intended for use by infants above the age of six month. For such products, labelling must now also provide “information that infants above the age of 6 months should start to receive supplemental foods in addition to the formula.”

The modifications to Singapore’s infant formula labelling requirement take immediate effect.
