UAE: Energy efficiency standards and labelling for television sets issued

October 2019 - Relevant for: electrical and electronics

On 28 January 2019, the United Arab Emirates Cabinet of Ministers enacted Decision No. 12/2019 on Standard UAE.S 5010-8:2019 “Labeling – Energy Efficiency Label for Electrical Appliances – Part 8: Television Sets”.

This standard is established to reduce overall power consumption of the TV sets by up to 50% by setting minimum energy efficiency standards for televisions.

The Emirates Standards and Metrology Authority (ESMA) also updates its current Energy Efficiency Program by including the energy efficiency requirements for television sets.

All television sets can only be entering UAE market after being certified based on the above-mentioned standard and affixed EESL (Energy Efficiency Standardisation and Labeling Program) label. This is in force for manufacturers or importers from 14 August 2019.
