TÜV SÜD's UK Headquarters Goes Green with Solar Panels

15 April 2024

By March 2024, all three of our new solar panel (PV) systems had been successfully installed at our UK main test lab facilities and are now fully operational. We are capturing a wealth of data on the operation of these systems and their impact on our energy consumption has already been significant, which is fantastic news. Despite the inclement March weather, the systems still generated a total of over 28 MWh of electricity. They are still set fair to generate sufficient power to meet at least 20% of the UK test labs’ needs in 2024. We've already saved over 7 tons of CO2e doing so at the same time which helps support the UN's aim to reduce energy-related CO2 emissions and help combat climate change (UN Sustainable Development Goals 9 and 13). Live data presentations and dashboards are being made available around our buildings so colleagues and visitors can see in real time how these systems are working and benefitting us.

Making the solar project a reality was a key first win for us as it enabled us to start addressing our sustainability goals with real-world solutions. This project contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12 which aims to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. We also feel it's important to show our partners and customers that we take our sustainability commitments seriously.

We are now busy rolling out a scheme of EV charging at the workplace, with Fareham and East Kilbride each receiving a first phase of 4 new EV charging stations.

Take a look at the video of our solar panels on the roof of our UK headquarters in Fareham, Hampshire.
