Green Energy & Sustainability Business Development Manager
After studying BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering at Edinburgh Napier University, my career took me across the UK, starting with a graduate programme for a diesel injector manufacturer in Gloucestershire. I worked as a manufacturing systems engineer in various departments across the business. My next role took me back to Scotland working as a Lead Project Engineer for the subsea drilling systems department at a major oil & gas manufacturer. Next, I built up my customer relationship and business development skills in sales engineering roles for international bearing manufacturers. I have also gained Incorporated Engineer status from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. In March 2023, I joined TÜV SÜD as Green Energy and Sustainability (GES) Business Development Manager.
I was immediately interested when I saw the role, as TÜV SÜD is widely known as a global industry leader. My division is aimed at future energy requirements and supporting companies to reach their carbon goals such as net zero, which is an exciting and evolving sector to be in.
Home office based in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Mechanical engineering and sales/business development.
I am responsible for all business development activities within the GES division. This involves dealing with and generating new customer enquiries and supporting those new customers and our current customer base from initial enquiry, to engineering proposal and quotation through to project handover and engineering. I visit and exhibit at lots of relevant trade fairs to show customers how TÜV SÜD can support them in the GES field.
Meeting lots of new people and getting to understand individual customers’ projects at an in-depth level. I have diverse insight into multiple industries and enjoy learning how companies are going to fulfil their plans and how we can support them on that journey.
I have only been with the company a short time, and already I can see that our service offering is constantly increasing.
Within the GES sector (hydrogen, CCUS & sustainability services) the industry is changing all the time. It is clear that hydrogen and CCUS will be part of the global future energy requirements and with the desire to reach net zero, the support and service required within the sector will only continue to grow. TÜV SÜD’s service offering will continue to expand exponentially in the coming years.
Developing the GES business, marketing TÜV SÜD’s services and generating new customers and ensuring we can support all of our customers’ needs as we expand and grow as a division.
I have been really impressed at the development opportunities on offer at TÜV SÜD. Being able to work both from home and in the office, as required, is also a great benefit. The company has very good and wide-ranging benefits for all of its staff and takes employee health and education seriously.
I have only been in the business a short time, and I have found all the management team and colleagues supportive on a professional and personal level. They’ve been helping me with my training and also enabling me to find my own way within the company.
Helpful, approachable, kind, focused and reliable.
Do it! You won’t regret it.
