CE stands for Conformité Européenne, which translates from French to English as ‘European Conformity’. CE marking states that a product meets the requirements of all applicable EU directives. While for some products, CE marking can be carried out by the manufacturer themselves, other products must be tested by a company that offers CE marking services. TÜV SÜD provides companies around the world with CE mark testing and can also create technical documentation that shows your products are compliant.
CE marking assures your product can enter the European Union and allows free movement throughout the nearly 30 countries that make up the European Economic Area, giving you direct access to over 500 million consumers. If a product that should display a CE mark is found not to have one, the manufacturer or distributor could be fined and face expensive product recall – so compliance is essential.
TÜV SÜD is an EU Notified Body authorised to evaluate product compliance within the requirements of most EU Directives and Regulations. Our testing services span the complete range of requirements for product acceptance in the EU, against the essential requirements of the Directives.
We can support you throughout the entire conformity process to ensure compliance for all kinds of products, from radio equipment to construction products, machinery and much more.

From 13 December 2024, the new EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR, (EU) 2023/988) will come into force, replacing the Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC). This regulation introduces comprehensive innovations, especially with regard to the rapidly growing online trade. Its primary objective is to enhance the safety of non-food products on the European market better protect consumers from risks.
The GPSR complements the existing CE marking and establishes a clear, binding framework for all actors along the supply chain. It applies to manufacturers of non-food products as well as to traders, importers and exporters.
