Thailand. Nippon Paint has achieved Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) International certification under the International EPD System, becoming the first paint brand in Thailand to be certified under this globally recognised environmental declaration scheme. The certification reinforces Nippon Paint’s commitment to international standards of environmental transparency, accuracy, and sustainability within the paint and coatings industry.

TUV SUD Verified EPD International for Nippon Paint

The EPD International certification is based on a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) covering the entire product life cycle, from raw material sourcing and manufacturing processes through product use and end‑of‑life management. from raw material sourcing to end‑of‑life management The assessment is conducted in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards, with all data independently verified by TÜV SÜD, an internationally accredited third‑party organisation. This verification ensures transparency, accuracy, and full traceability in line with international requirements.

Mr. Watchara Siririthichai, General Manager of Nippon Paint Decorative Coatings (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said that achieving EPD International certification underscores Nippon Paint’s role as a global paint brand from Japan, operating across multiple countries and consistently adhering to international quality standards. He noted that Nippon Paint’s technologies and internal standards have long exceeded basic industry requirements, and this certification brings global best practices in transparency and environmental responsibility into Thailand’s paint industry in a tangible way, supporting the sustainable advancement of the country’s construction sector toward global benchmarks.

The certification can be used as supporting documentation for green building certifications, including LEED v4.1. This enables developers, project owners, contractors, architects, and designers to manage environmental data more accurately, reduce compliance risks, and elevate Thai construction projects to recognised global benchmarks.

Ms. Natchanan Jiavamavin, Senior Manager, Business Assurance Department (BA) at TÜV SÜD Thailand, highlighted the growing focus on sustainability within the construction industry, which has led to more stringent and internationally aligned environmental certification requirements. As customers increasingly seek organisations with strong social responsibility and measurable positive environmental impact, EPD International – one of the world’s earliest standards focusing on in‑depth environmental impact assessment for construction materials, has gained strong traction among architects and real estate developers.

The EPD International certification covers four main product categories, including primers and water‑based topcoats in matt, semi‑gloss, and gloss finishes. It also includes key products such as Nippon Paint AirCare, an innovative ultra-premium interior paint designed to support healthier indoor environments, Nippon Paint Weatherbond, an advanced ultra-premium exterior paint engineered for long-lasting weather protection, and 5100 Wall Sealer primer. These products reflect Nippon Paint’s integration of Japanese paint technology expertise with globally recognised transparency standards to deliver sustainable value across construction projects.

Nippon Paint believes that the quality of living spaces should be measured not only by aesthetic appeal, but also by long‑term environmental and social impact. Achieving EPD International certification therefore represents not merely a product endorsement, but a brand‑level commitment to responsible, transparent innovation – supporting sustainable growth alongside Thailand’s construction industry toward global standards.
