Gerhard Mueller re-elected as President of CITA

Gerhard Mueller (60), Head of Policy and Economic Affairs of the Mobility Division of TÜV SÜD, was re-elected as President of the Comité International de l’Inspection Technique Automobile (CITA), the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee, by the 22nd CITA General Assembly in Rotterdam. Patrick Fruth, CEO Division Mobility, congratulated Gerhard Mueller on his re-election and wished him every success in this responsible role, saying, “TÜV-Verband, and TÜV SÜD in particular, can count it as a great success that this position has once more been filled from our ranks.” Mueller has been involved in the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee for 10 years (https://citainsp.org/).

In his role as President of CITA over the past four years, Gerhard Mueller has contributed significantly to ensuring CITA is fit to face the challenges of the future. In the wake of the revision of the CITA strategy, various measures have been derived and implemented, including changing the membership structure, re-designing and improving the efficiency of the working groups, increasing the number of international webinars and conferences and expanding political contacts. All these activities have significantly enhanced the political sphere’s perception of CITA as a third-party expert organisation for vehicle safety. Today, CITA is known as a professional and trustworthy association committed to improving road safety and environmental protection throughout the world.

Over the next four years, Gerhard Mueller will focus in particular on intensifying collaborations with global organisations such as UNECE and the World Bank, expanding dialogue with relevant associations and organising regular parliamentary events. In addition, CITA will publish further professional studies and position papers on the significance of vehicle testing for road safety and environmental protection, and will put forward proposals on how to align vehicle inspections to modern technologies such as automated driving systems and zero-emission and climate-neutral powertrains.

“If we want to ensure that the innovative systems that are so important for road safety and environmental protection will work throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle, we need to continually align our vehicle inspection methods with the technological progress made in car manufacturing”, explains Müller. “However, the success of this approach needs the inspection industry, the car industry and the legislative bodies to engage in discussion as equals, and as the inspection industry, we must be able to represent our interests independently and neutrally. Collaboration within CITA, involving internationally agreed positions offers the best starting-point for reaching these goals”, enthuses Mueller.
