- Defining, reviewing and analyzing product lifecycle's scope
Since the late 1970s, global temperatures have risen and have been continuously above normal. Our economies are at peril from climate change. Investors, consumers, and regulators are quickly changing their economic viewpoints to follow more sustainable pathways. Organizations are made more complicated, which affects their reputation, brand, and long-term profitability. Organizations must first assess the effect of their products to act ethically.
Product carbon footprint (PCF) is the total of a product's direct and indirect carbon emissions across its entire life cycle. During the stages of the production process, distribution, use, and disposal/recycling, each product emits a certain quantity of CO2 into the environment. By assessing PCF, investors, consumers, and regulators may use data to better their investment/consumption/policy decisions.
Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is a tool for measuring the environmental impacts associated with all stages of a product's life cycle, from raw material extraction to production, use, and disposal. It combines quantitative data from different sources to identify and assess the potential environmental effects of various activities. The primary purpose of LCA is to enable businesses to reduce their environmental impact and improve their sustainability performance.
This course will provide an introduction to the International Standards Organization (ISO) 14040 and 14044, which promote environmental management through life-cycle assessment (LCA) & introduce the concept of "Product Carbon Footprint" & the fundamentals to calculate a product's lifecycle emissions, which is a crucial first step in creating sustainable products. Participants will gain insight into LCA principles and concepts, learn how to evaluate the environmental impacts of a product or process throughout its entire life cycle and understand how to use the information to identify opportunities for improvement. The course will also cover key ISO 14040/44 requirements, including data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting. By the end of this training session, participants should be able to assess the sustainability performance of their operations in accordance with ISO standards.
