Awareness Training Program on Functional Safety based on IEC 61508 / IEC 61511
The Awareness Training Program on Functional Safety based on IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 is designed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of Functional Safety and its role in preventing catastrophic incidents in process industries. Functional Safety is a specialized discipline within process safety that focuses on prevention rather than mitigation and helps ensure that critical process parameters remain under control through the application of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
This one-day training introduces participants to the principles of Functional Safety, the requirements of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards, and the Functional Safety Lifecycle. The course covers key concepts such as risk and risk reduction, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Safety Integrity Levels (SIL), Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and hazard and risk management approaches.
Through expert-led sessions, practical discussions, short exercises, and question-and-answer sessions, participants gain awareness of hardware and software safety concepts, failure mechanisms, verification and validation activities, Functional Safety Assessments (FSA), and Functional Safety Audits. The program provides an overview of the complete Functional Safety Lifecycle in line with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 requirements.

Participants will obtain an overview of the methods, terminology, and practices commonly associated with Safety Instrumented Systems and Functional Safety implementation.
