Ensuring safety, security, interoperability and reliability of remote healthcare services and platforms
Ensuring safety, security, interoperability and reliability of remote healthcare services and platforms
The shift to electronic health records, collaborative care and adoption of innovative technologies, has improved the quality of healthcare. New medical technologies increase knowledge of patients’ condition and access to data can improve care and device performance in the long term. Healthcare facilities are more connected and require access and interchange data with multiple systems. For example, in Singapore, data would need to be interchanged with NEHR and SmartCMS systems.
As healthcare needs increase due to aging populations, current models of healthcare are not sustainable, driving the adoption of remote care. Remote healthcare and telehealth services are also being adopted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Remote monitoring reduces hospital visits, saves costs and reduces the risk of a patient being misdiagnosed through doctor-induced stress.
However, this integration and flow of data exposes the system to risks in terms of safety, security, interoperability and reliability. This masterclass looks at measures to mitigate these risks using a standards-based approach to identify the risks and implement mitigation measures. Cybersecurity, Data security and Data Privacy are inherently important, and become crucial in healthcare due to the nature of healthcare data and their value to hackers. A successful remote healthcare service or platform will not only require technical controls, but also policies and protocols to mitigate the risks due to the flow of data over heterogenous networks. The masterclass will educate and increase the awareness of the stakeholders in the ecosystem of the best practices to minimise risks in remote healthcare.
