WHAT IS ACOUSTICS TESTING?

Industrialisation and affluence has led to rising levels of noise pollution in the environment today. With limited space resources, residential buildings and commercial developments are situated closer together. Prolonged exposure to noise can lead to serious physical, mental health problems and possibly create environmental disturbances. With countries introducing legislation to control noise levels, businesses are exploring ways to keep their noise levels down, by measuring factory noise levels, using special building materials and utilising engineering and technology to reduce equipment noise to acceptable levels.

TÜV SÜD's acoustics testing SERVICES

TÜV SÜD provides a wide range of acoustic noise and sound insulation testing services designed to help businesses manage their general sound insulation using two key sound measurement criteria, the sound reduction index, a laboratory method of measuring the airborne sound insulation of building elements such as walls, floors, roofs, partitions, doors and windows, and the sound transmission loss (ASTM E90), a method of measurement that determines the Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating of architectural products so as to match other products with similar STC ratings.

TÜV SÜD’s acoustics testing laboratory is the most comprehensive in Southeast Asia, offering world-class acoustics testing services to meet various international standards ranging from ISO, ASTM, BS, IEC and national requirements. TÜV SÜD acoustic noise testing services include:

  • Both laboratory and field noise isolation class (NIC and FNIC)
  • Laboratory airborne sound insulation (weighted sound reduction index, Rw) / sound transmission loss (sound transmission class, STC)
  • Laboratory impact sound insulation and/or impact sound transmission (impact insulation class, IIC)
  • On-site indoor noise criteria (NC) curve and reverberation time (RT) measurement
  • On-site sound attenuation test of sound/noise barrier
  • On-site sports hall acoustic performance test (FSTC, FIIC, NC and RT)
  • On-site/field airborne sound insulation and/or on-site/field sound transmission loss (field sound transmission class, FSTC)
  • On-site/field impact sound insulation and/or on-site/field impact sound transmission (field impact insulation class, FIIC)
  • Sound absorption and sound absorption coefficient (noise reduction coefficient, NRC and sound absorption average, SAA)
  • Sound attenuation test of office screen
  • Sound power level and sound pressure level of equipment and products
