WHAT IS Environmental and Sustainability Impact Assessment?

The Environmental and sustainability impact assessment is a study to identify, predict, and assess the type and scale of potential biodiversity impacts and opportunities to benefit conservation associated with any business activities or projects.

WHY IS Environmental and Sustainability Impact Assessment IMPORTANT?

Globalisation and modernisation through latest technological advancement are moving at break neck speed currently. Under such scenario, it is possible to neglect the impact it creates on biodiversity and sustainability of our atmosphere. We are accountable to sustain our planet to make it a better place for all living things, including our future generations by safeguarding it against the adverse effects of technology, making our business operations and new investments more sustainable with little or nil impact to our biosphere.

TÜV SÜD HELPS TO foresee risks and impacts on surroundings AND MITIGATE THEM EARLY IN YOUR PROJECT

TÜV SÜD experts have versatile experience from a wide range of projects, enabling us to provide insights on the possible hazards and foresee its potential impacts in the long run. Our past successful experiences with IFC, ADB, FMO, IDFC and MIRA in sectors like, power, mining, manufacturing industries, infrastructure projects, hospitality etc., make us the preferred choice for our customers. We suggest appropriate mitigation measures early in the development process. We draw upon our long-standing relationships with regulators and proven processes in coordinating multi-stakeholder dialogue to avert emerging problems and find suitable solutions for existing issues.

WHAT DO Environmental and Sustainability Impact AssessmentINVOLVE?

Environmental and sustainability impact assessment (ESIA) study should begin as early as possible to understand the biodiversity characteristics of an area and identification of potential impacts lasting from months to years for accounting seasonal and migration issues. The risks to the communities arising from changes to ecosystem should be thoroughly evaluated at the planning stage of the project itself so that all identified potential impacts can be avoided or mitigated in the earliest stages of planning. Once a project or business activity proceeds, the costs of redesign or re-sitting will make it more difficult to effectively address biodiversity issues.

Typical ESIA study consists of the following activities below:

• Screening for biodiversity assessment.
• Define scope in consultation with public
• Conduct baseline studies
• Predict all possible impacts
• Detailed evaluation of impacts and ways to mitigate same
• Consideration of sustainable alternatives possible
• Prepare social and environmental management plan in consultation with public
• Present the final assessment report

Our holistic approach can have long lasting beneficial effect on the operation and value of your assets.
