Manufacturers and suppliers of electrical and electronic products wishing to sell in the Japanese market must prove compliance with the stringent technical requirements. However, the high levels of quality and safety demanded by the Japanese authorities can pose significant challenges to foreign companies. To gain access to the Japanese market, foreign companies must also work with a local importer or Notifying Supplier to represent them.
In Japan, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is the regulatory agency responsible for ensuring compliance with the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law. The Safety Law regulates the manufacture and sale of electrical and electronic products to prevent potential hazards.
To prove conformity to mandatory technical requirements, the import and sale of Category A electrical and electronic products requires PSE certification through a Registered Conformity Assessment Body. Products may only carry the Diamond PSE Mark after successful certification.
Having a product certified by an METI Registered Conformity Assessment Body, such as TÜV SÜD, provides assurance that the product is in compliance with Japanese regulations and the required safety standards. Without the PSE Mark, you cannot legally access the Japanese market.
TÜV SÜD is a Registered Conformity Assessment Body with the capability to issue the Certificate of Conformity for seven groups of Category A specified products under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law. Our extensive experience in the Japanese market allows us to deliver the complete suite of certification services, from technical pre-check and testing to documentation preparation, through to factory inspections and certification renewal services.
