This certification mark applies to electric and electronic equipment, such as large and small household appliances, IT and telecommunications equipment, consumer goods, lamps, electric and electronic tools, toys, leisure and sports Equipment, as well as medical devices.
The certification mark is awarded within the framework of voluntary testing and certification. The test method developed by TÜV SÜD is based on the standards addressing the testing and evaluation of hazardous PVC plastics. Polyvinyl chloride, frequently abbreviated as PVC, ranks third after polyethylene and polypropylene as the most common synthetic polymer produced. Many plastic goods in our daily life, such as power cords and plugs, HDMI and USB cables, as well as toys, are made from polyvinyl chloride. However, PVC includes hazardous chemical substances such as phthalates, lead, cadmium and organotin, which can be toxic for the human body. Furthermore, these phthalates may also be released into the air over time, creating further human risks.
Periodic surveillance and/or monitoring of the manufacture of a product constitutes the basic premise for certification that includes the award of a certification mark. Certification always requires product testing and regular factory inspections.
As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD Product Service verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product testing.
In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured. Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will become invalid (withdrawn) and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.
TÜV SÜD Product Service tests the shoe lasts that form the basis of shoe manufacturing for various criteria, including length and heel width. Subsequently, the interior dimensions of the prototype shoes manufactured on the basis of the lasts are verified.
At regular intervals certified products will be bought in the market to perform spot checks and verify that the product is still meeting the requirements defined on the certification mark.
For the statement "Tested for harmful substances", TÜV SÜD tested the product for hazardous substances. The test is based on legal requirements, specific national requirements and own specifications.
