The aim of this course is to train the delegates in the fundamental principles of functional safety and to get their competency in the application of functional safety standards certified by TÜV SÜD. The course includes two days of taught modules (with discussion and practical exercises), followed by a half day open book exam. TÜV SÜD additionally offers the opportunity to deliver this training as a dedicated in-house course, delivered solely to your organisation to meet your needs and requirements. TÜV SÜD’s small class sizes enhance the trainer-delegate relationship to ensure our delegates leave with confidence in the knowledge they have acquired throughout the training course and includes a globally recognised TÜV SÜD certificate upon completion. All of our physical classrooms come with refreshments and lunch as standard.

Delegates who pass the exam can apply for registration as a Functional Safety Engineer in the TÜV SÜD Functional Safety Certification Programme; registration also requires 2 years relevant experience and to have formal education qualification, for example at diploma level or above.

Stewart Robinson is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a member of the Institute of Measurement and Control. He was a member of the Safety Panel of the InstMC from 2007 and chaired that Panel for many years. He is an active member of the British Standards Institution (BSI) committees that deal with machinery safeguarding (MCE/3) and Measurement and Control (GEL/65). He is the nominated UK expert for: IEC TC44 MT 62061 (Safety of machinery – Functional safety of safety-related control systems); IEC TC65 WG16 (Digital Factories); IEC TC65 JWG 21 (Unified Reference Model for Smart Automation); IEC TC65 WG24 (Asset Administration Shell for Industrial Applications).
He is listed as a Functional Safety Expert in the TÜV SÜD certification programme (I.D. TA13010249).
In the past he has worked in the machinery sector as a practical engineer commissioning and troubleshooting machines, and as a control systems integrator working across industrial sectors. He has developed and delivered training courses for machinery in general but also for industrial control systems, in particular for Functional Safety.
