Become a certified Functional Safety Engineer focused on improving automotive safety

Public Course5 Days ENIntermediateVirtual Classroom

The ISO 26262 Functional Safety Training and Certification Programme (FSCP) provides professionals with the technical knowledge and practical experience to understand safety-related functions for electrical and electronic systems in road vehicles.

✔ Gain an overview of Functional Safety and FSM for ISO 26262 2nd Edition Sections 1 - 12
✔ Understand the development and assessment of safety relevant hardware according to ISO 26262 including reliability considerations
✔ Learn about the development and assessment of safety-relevant software according to ISO 26262 such as process models and selection of methods
✔ Discover how to manage safety-related systems in road vehicles so you can take more informed steps to avoid risks.

Our personal certification programme covers the entire product life cycle from concept to decommissioning. You’ll cover functional safety, risk analysis, system design, development and assessment of hardware and software, and practical applications. It’s ideal for manufacturers, regulatory affairs, and quality management staff in the automotive industry. Successful completion leads to TÜV SÜD certification, enhancing safety expertise.

Implementing ISO 26262 in the initial phase, helps to ensure that no such risks surface at a later stage of production, when it becomes expensive to fix the problem.

Our ISO 26262 Complete Package training includes course modules 1-4 to introduce you to the processes necessary for your role, OEM, Tier 1 and Tier 2 in the safety life cycle. For employees and other professionals this programme demonstrates that you have the necessary expertise in functional safety for the automotive industry in accordance with ISO 26262.

All course modules 1-4 adopt a situation-based approach to the role of safety analyses, supporting processes and the resulting deliverables. Explanations of the necessary work products and appropriate treatment of the safety plan are an integral part of all modules.

Starting with an introduction to the fundamentals of functional safety and the structure of ISO 26262, you will gain an understanding of its purpose, scope and importance within automotive development. You will be taken through hazard and risk analysis, including ASIL allocation, before moving on to derivation of a functional safety concept and technical safety requirements.

As the course progresses, you will examine development & assessment of safety relevant hardware according to ISO 26262 including reliability considerations and qualitative and quantitative requirements. You will also be introduced to safety-oriented analysis, assessment of data communications and calculation of fault metrics and reliability characteristics.

Our next module focuses on the development and assessment of safety-relevant software according to ISO 26262. You’ll learn about process models, selection of methods, techniques and measures required by the standard, plus practical planning of SW development depending on ASIL.    Special topics addressed include definition of safety measures/hardware diagnosis, partitioning of software, comparison between code-based and model-based development, strategic design of project documentation and comparisons of code-based and model-based development.

You will also explore the role of safety analysis within the safety life cycle, assess the strengths and weaknesses of commonly used analysis techniques and understand how to interlink various safety analyses using practical examples.

By the end of the course, you will be able to apply ISO 26262 across the full safety life cycle, perform comprehensive safety assessments, integrate reliability evaluation at hardware level and translate risk findings into robust system, hardware and software safety concepts.

You will then complete an examination on the fifth day.
