On 31 March 2022, the Brazil National Institute of Metrology, Standardisation and Industrial Quality (INMETRO/CONMETRO) has approved Portaria No. 148 on Technical Requirements for Conformity Assessment of Household Electrical Appliances. The Portaria approves the safety and labelling requirements for household and similar appliances, in the area of the Conformity Assessment Requirements and the Conformity Identification Mark which is clarified in Annexes I and II.
The applicable products are listed in the item 1 of Annex III and and exempted products from its compliance are indicated in item 2 of Annex III.
According to Article 12, from 2 May 2022, manufacturers and importers must adopt new certification processes for household and similar appliances and layout of the Compliance Identification Seal in Annex II. To obtain the certification is the precondition to use the Conformity Identification Seal, established in Annex II, as well as for its marketization.
Families of household and similar appliances that are already certified by 2 May 2022 shall comply to the Portaria by 2 May 2027, on the Compliance Identification Seal according to the applicable conditions and layout established in Annex II.
Manufacturers and importers of household appliances that are already certified must adapt the Portaria by 2 May 2025 to follow the certification processes in order to meet the requirements of the packaging, the label conditions and layout established in Annex II.
This Portaria will enter into force on 02 May 2022.
