In the United States, the California Proposition 65 new warning regulations1 came into force since 30 August 2018. Per the new regulations, the consumer products manufactured on or after the effective date should comply with the new warning requirements.
In this year, the warning enforcement of nine chemicals including N,N-Dimethylformamide, tetrabromobisphenol A, perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) which added to Proposition 65 list2 last year already took effect. There are also three additional chemicals chlorpyrifos, n-Hexane, vinylidene chloride (1,1-Dichloroethylene) will become effective in the coming December 2018. Businesses should pay attention and check if these chemicals are used in their products.
California Proposition 653 enforcement is carried out through civil lawsuits brought by the California Attorney General’s Office (OAG), or by a district attorney or city attorney or private parties acting in the public interest. Lead and phthalates still ranked top in recent settlements. The involved products include apparel, bags, tools, electronics, etc.
