Together with SAE International, China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), A NICE CITY and International Transportation Innovation Center (ITIC) TÜV SÜD has joined the new International Alliance for Mobility Testing and Standardization (IAMTS) as charter member. The IAMTS was officially announced at the SAE WCX World Congress 2019 in Detroit, USA, and aims to interconnect leading international standardization institutions, test fields and highly automated driving vehicle validation methodologies. Thereby, IAMTS develops and establishes best practices and state of the art testing and validation methods for manufacturers and mobility-as-a-service companies and provides them with a set of physical and virtual test environments.
As first chairman of the executive committee of the alliance Alexander Kraus, Senior Vice President, Global Head of Automotive at TÜV SÜD, was officially elected by SAE, CATARC, A NICE CITY and ITIC.
Currently, knowledge and approaches concerning road traffic laws, certification regulations and testing standards related to highly automated driving and its transitional products vary across major markets. The intention of the International Alliance for Mobility Testing and Standardization (IAMTS) is to figure out how to better communicate such variations and share the complex information derived from testing and verification practices globally, to accelerate the coordinated development of testing and verification technologies. As a “global membership-based alliance of organizations involved in the testing, standardization and certification of advanced mobility systems and services” the IAMTS follows the mission “to develop and grow an international portfolio of smart mobility testbeds that meet the highest quality implementation and operational standards.”
The alliance further aims to bring together testbed users and operators at a global scale to share testing methods and data, as well as testing systems and equipment to develop “a commonly accepted framework of regulations, test scenarios, validation and certification methods, and terminology.”
As an expert for assessing and testing the safety of autonomous driving technology, TÜV SÜD will use its expertise and testing methods to play an active role in shaping the future of mobility and raising the society's confidence on automated driving.
Results of the first IAMTS Executive Committee and Technical Committee Meeting
On 20th May the charter members came together for the first IAMTS Executive Committee Meeting and the first Technical Committee Meeting which took place at the TÜV SÜD headquarter in Munich. Amongst others, the members discussed how to effectively share the complex information derived from international testing and verification practices and to develop and establish globally recognized standards and test methods for the approval of automated driving functions. The meeting was very successful, and the committee approved two new member applications from AVL List GmbH (Austria) as new strategic member and executive committee member, and from Hart Consult International GmbH (Germany) as new expert member.
The next Executive Committee Meeting is planned for July 2019 while the Technical Leadership Committee will meet in August 2019 again.
