Introduction to Functional Safety for Management
The manufacture and operation of safety-critical equipment requires the involvement of the entire organisation, including those not directly involved in the technical activities.
This training provides a general insight into functional safety and provides participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to support the technical processes and ensure that they understand and successfully comply with these requirements.
This training is aimed at managers, executives and senior executives in organisations that develop and market safety-related products. It is aimed at the decision-makers, contract negotiators, marketing, finance, compliance and legal departments within the organisation. Note that this course covers general functional safety topics.
This course provides managers and non‑technical stakeholders with a clear, accessible introduction to functional safety principles. Participants will gain essential knowledge and practical tools to understand their role in supporting functional safety processes, ensuring compliance with applicable requirements, and contributing to the safe development, production, and operation of safety‑critical systems.
Designed as a complement to existing Functional Safety training for engineering and production teams, this course equips management personnel with the awareness needed to effectively champion and uphold safety requirements across all organisational levels.

He holds a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and an MSc in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering from Swansea University, which provided a strong technical foundation for tackling complex industrial challenges. He has extensive expertise in applying standards such as ISO 12100, ISO 13849, and IEC 60204, guiding projects from risk assessment and electrical design review to system validation and final commissioning.
Passionate about real-world problem solving, Hefin has contributed to pioneering projects, including functional safety compliance for the Royal Mint’s gold recovery process plant—a world-first facility that recovers gold from e-waste. As a trainer, he now shares this knowledge with others, helping professionals enhance their understanding of functional safety and machinery compliance.
