Minimise risk and gain a competitive edge
Pressure equipment manufacturers, suppliers and project owners need to be aware of many regulations, standards and building codes. These include the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code in North America, the Pressure Equipment Directive of the EU (PED), or the Indian Boiler Regulation (IBR). To remain competitive in this changing market, manufacturers face the challenging task of understanding what national or international requirements apply to their products and how to implement them. It is also important for their staff to keep up to date with increasingly complex technologies, processes and market demands.
TÜV SÜD tests and certifies pressure equipment according to various standards and regulations. Our end-to-end support for manufacturers and owners is essential for the success of complex technical installation projects that require global coordination and utilisation of multiple resources (sub-contractors, suppliers, etc). We also provide personnel certification in the areas of Pressure Equipment Directive, Machinery Directive and workplace safety requirements.
Manufacturers have to understand their product’s classification and the relevant technical and safety requirements depending on the product’s category. By quickly developing an efficient and cost-effective solution to meet the necessary requirements, you can gain a competitive advantage in the pressure equipment market.
From our origins as a steam boiler inspection association in 1866, we have been trusted experts in the field of pressure equipment. You can capitalise on our longstanding experience and technical competency to ensure that your equipment meets the relevant requirements.

TÜV SÜD (Notified Body 0036) provides tests and certifications in line with European Directives such as 97/23/EC, 2010/35/EU and 2009/105/EC. The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is currently the foremost set of rules and regulations for pressure equipment and components worldwide. ASME certification enables manufacturers to access global markets. Meanwhile, European market access is achieved through Harmonised European Standards such as EN13445 (unfired pressure vessels), EN 12480 (industrial piping) and EN12952 / EN12953 (boilers), which are increasingly accepted outside Europe.
Pressure equipment must be designed in compliance with a pressure vessel code or regulation. Nonconformities in the planning phase may lead to equipment failure and irreversible damage. Given our familiarity with most international design codes and regulations, we are an essential partner for design review and verification.
Our training arm provides a range of courses (EU Pressure Equipment Directive, the Machinery Directive, etc) for your staff.
TÜV SÜD’s end-to-end service portfolio supports you with complex technical installation projects that require global coordination and utilisation of resources. This portfolio covers the entire supply chain from vendor qualification, pre- and post-shipment inspection and project expediting to certification of conformity and other procedures.
TÜV SÜD is familiar with international design code and regulations, and provides technical assistance for investment projects (industrial plants). Our support helps you design and manufacture pressure equipment in compliance with a pressure vessel code or regulation so that you can avoid non-conformities in the planning stage.
As an EU Notified Body, TÜV SÜD can perform QS approval for manufacturers.
TÜV SÜD has a worldwide reputation as an independent third-party solutions provider. We provide reports and certificates that meet with the highest acceptance by authorities. Our extensive experience and participation in preparing technical guidelines and standards makes us an ideal partner for testing and certification. We are a recognised testing, supervisory and certification body for the entire EU (Notified Body 0036) and a preferred partner of the Authorised Inspection Agency ARISE Inc., USA. This enables us to offer you both the CE marking and ASME CODE acceptance under a single roof, ensuring your business is ready to access global markets.
