TÜV SÜD Certification Marks

A TÜV SÜD certification mark enables you to secure a competitive edge, and to demonstrate it to the outside world. By displaying these globally recognised certification marks on your products, packaging, website and advertisements, you highlight the outstanding quality or functional features of your products, giving you a critical competitive advantage over your rivals.

It is important to use the TÜV SÜD certification marks in the right way and the correct graphic version. The TÜV SÜD Testing and Certification Regulations state that:

  • A certification mark may only be used in advertising products for which a valid certificate exists. Advertising featuring the certification mark must be immediately discontinued when the certification expires, is revoked or withdrawn.

  • The certificate defines issues including the certification mark to be used, the products and models certified and the certificate holder who is authorised to use the mark. For example, only kettles with the certified model designation “Green” are entitled to display the certification mark; a non-certified “Blue” model, even if identical in design and construction, may not apply the mark.

  • Certification marks must not be used in a misleading manner. Particular care must be taken that the certification mark is used only in direct connection with the certified product and that the mark is clearly obvious as such.

  • The 3D versions should be used whenever possible. The 2D versions in black/white are only to be used when the use of the 3D versions is not possible due to technical or graphical reasons (for example, very small labels).

  • As a TÜV SÜD customer you are entitled to use TÜV SÜD certification marks in your advertising. Testing and GS (“Safety Tested”) marks of other testing institutes and TÜV companies are not interchangeable.

  • Written permission must be obtained from TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH in advance for any use of the testing/audit report or the name of TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH for advertising purposes.
  • As certificate holder you are responsible for ensuring that the certification mark is used in an appropriate and reliable manner, and that also your customers do that. The certificate holder may not assign a certificate to third parties.

Infringement of the Testing and Certification Regulations may, in extreme cases, result in fines of up to EUR 50,000.

This mark is awarded for electrical appliances which have been tested to verify compliance with the requirements for electromagnetic compatibility.

The EMC mark attests electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of appliances and systems, i.e. they neither emit, nor are they sensitive to electrical interference. The mark is awarded when the requirements of standards on the electromagnetic compatibility of products are fulfilled. The focus of this mark is not on safety aspects.

ENEC (European Norms Electrical Certification) is an European high quality mark for electrical products helping manufacturers and retailers to demonstrate the compliance of their products with European Safety Standards.

The Certification Bodies are located in Europe, while testing takes place in approved ENEC Testing Laboratories worldwide, and in approved Manufacturers’ Laboratories. The scheme originates from the luminaires sector and has meanwhile opened the European ENEC Mark to all electrical product sectors.

The NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory) program of OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) acknowledges private organizations and confirms their qualification to test technical products for their safety in the workplace according to the requirements of the US Occupational Safety & Health Administration. "US" stands for compliance with the requirements of US authorities, "C" for compliance with Canadian requirements.
