Sweden is on the way to develop its first high-speed railways between the country´s three largest metropolitan regions of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. The first part that will be constructed is “The East Link project”. Covering the Stockholm-Linköping double-track section (154km) and including 25 km of tunnels and 155 bridges totalling 10 km. The successive construction start-up will take place over the period 2017 to 2021 with the aim of the first trains becoming operational in 2028.
The new high-speed railway will offer a 2h 30min journey time between its two largest cities (Stockholm-Gothenburg) and will be operated at speeds upwards of 320 km/h. The finished line will most probably lead to the development of the Jönköping-Malmö high-speed project as well, connecting the high-speed line to Europe through Denmark.
Another major project is “The West Link” covering double-track section (8 km) through central Gothenburg of which 6 km is to be a tunnel with three sub-stations: Gothenburg Central station, Haga and Korsvägen. “The West Link” is part of the western Swedish package and will increase accessibility to Gothenburg, free up space at the existing Gothenburg Central Station and reduces vulnerability in the rail system. Construction is to start in 2017/2018 and is expected finalised in 2026.
TÜV SÜD Danmark has currently won the NoBo verification on the “West Link” and the CSM assessment on the “East Link”. This is one further major step in establishing the TÜV SÜD rail business in the Scandinavian region and to become known as a brand and a solid partner to contract with.
Johan Tann is the project manager for TÜV SÜD Danmark. He is located in Gothenburg, Sweden and will ensure a good dialogue with the customer Trafikverket in the required national language.
