Additive Manufacturing (3D printing, AM) is a technology that enables efficient manufacturing of high value-added products and small-lot, high-mix products. It is also known as a sustainable manufacturing technology because of its potential to reduce the carbon footprint of a product over its entire life cycle. Furthermore, the official publication of the international standard ISO/ASTM 52920:2023 on June 29, 2023, which specifies requirements for AM manufacturing processes and manufacturing sites, is expected to accelerate the growth of the AM product market.

We are pleased to announce that TÜV SÜD issued an AM Manufacturing Site Certification which is compliant with ISO/ASTM 52920, to PBF-LB/M (Laser-based powder bed fusion of metals) AM manufacturing process of Nabtesco Corporation, a leading company of mechanical components. Nabtesco is the first company in Japan which AM Manufacturing Site Certification was issued. AM Manufacturing Site Certification provides objective proof to purchasers of AM products that the system and its operational capability to consistently manufacture products that meet customer quality requirements are in compliance with the requirements of the ISO/ASTM 52920 international standard.

As an expert in AM, TÜV SÜD Japan will continue to contribute to the spread of AM products in Japan through AM manufacturing site certification and personnel training*.
