Implementation of the new EU Battery Regulation (2023/1542)
This comprehensive training provides participants with a deep understanding of the new EU Battery Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542), which replaces the Battery Directive 2006/66/EC and the Battery Act (BattG). The regulation introduces mandatory requirements across the entire battery lifecycle—from design and production to labelling, sustainability, and end-of-life management.
The course focuses on traction batteries (drive batteries), while also covering portable, industrial, and electric vehicle batteries. Participants will learn how to implement the regulation’s requirements within their organizations through interactive learning, practical exercises, and real-world case studies.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the scope and impact of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542
- Identify battery types and their specific regulatory requirements
- Implement sustainability, safety, and labelling standards
- Navigate due diligence obligations for raw material sourcing
- Design end-of-life strategies for battery collection and recycling
- Prepare for CE conformity and digital battery passport integration
Professionals from companies and institutions impacted by the EU Battery Regulation, including:
- Battery manufacturers and importers
- Compliance officers
- Sustainability and ESG managers
- Product managers
- Supply chain and procurement professionals
- Recycling and waste management operators
- Introduction and objectives
- General overview and classification of the regulation
- Sustainability and safety requirements
- Restrictions on hazardous substances
- Carbon footprint and performance classes
- Recycled content requirements
- Labelling and information requirements
- CE conformity and battery passport
- Battery compliance procedures
- Due diligence and supply chain transparency
- End-of-life management: collection, repurposing, recycling
- Case studies and real-world applications
The EU's new Battery Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542) will replace the Battery Act (BattG), which has been in place since 2006, and create new requirements for the battery market. This battery regulation will regulate the entire life cycle of batteries. It will set mandatory requirements for sustainability (e.g. carbon footprint rules, minimum recycled content criteria, performance and durability criteria), safety and labelling for placing on the market and putting batteries into service, and end-of-life requirements. The regulation will also introduce due diligence requirements for economic operators involved in the procurement of raw materials. In this seminar, we will give you an overview of the new battery regulation and show you how to implement the new requirements in practice. The focus of this training is on traction batteries (drive batteries).

Lectures, case studies, group exercises, discussions, problem solving, examples with explanation, assignments and/or quizzes happen in the virtual classroom training. Participants need to connect to the class from any internet accessible location. Each module is delivered live using webinar technology, creating a virtual classroom learning environment. Live sessions provide you with direct access to the trainer so you can ask questions, understand complex concepts and share ideas with peers. Webcam and microphone are REQUIRED to interact with the instructor and/or other participants.
The course content and structure are designed by the domain experts from TÜV SÜD. With immense experience and knowledge in the relevant standards, our team of product specialists and technical experts at TÜV SÜD, developed the course content based on current business landscape and market requirements.
By performing exercises and group discussions, attendees will develop a hands-on understanding that will facilitate the uncovering of true root causes of problems and the implementation of meaningful corrective actions to help the organization improve the procedure of examining and resolving nonconformities discovered during audits.
Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance from TÜV SÜD Academy upon completion.
