What is the VDA audit? What are the different standards?
VDA stands for Verband der Automobilindustrie, which means the German trade association for the automotive industry. The VDA set up a Quality Management Centre (QMC) for the benefit of German automotive OEMs and their suppliers in 1997. VDA 6.x is a quality management system standard that is mandatory for German carmakers. VDA audit standards help in evaluating and improving controls in a manufacturing organization’s new product introduction and manufacturing processes.
Different VDA standards are VDA 6, VDA 6.1, VDA 6.2, VDA 6.3, VDA 6.4, VDA 6.5, VDA 6.7. Out of all this VDA(6.1, 6.3, and 6.5) are favoured among the German supply chain and if your company is a supplier to German automotive, you will probably be audited for VDA requirements. You need to take up the VDA 6.3 Process Auditor training to be a certified Process Auditor.
What is VDA 6.3?
VDA 6.3 defines a process-based audit standard for evaluating and improving controls in a manufacturing organisation’s processes. Revised in 2016, the standard was comprehensively restructured to reflect the changes to ISO9001 and IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements in the automotive industry. The standard can be used by any organisation, either for internal process audits or for evaluating potential or existing suppliers. Compliance with VDA 6.3 is mandated by some vehicle makers and encouraged by others. You need to take up the VDA 6.3 Process Auditor training and certification program to be a certified VDA 6.3 Process Auditor.
Is VDA 6.3 process audit scoring very difficult to understand?
Process audits can be applied internally or externally across the full quality cycle and each parameter is evaluated individually and is awarded points 0,4,6,8,10. VDA 6.3 Process audit scoring is rather simple to understand. The higher the awarded point, the higher is the conformity and compliance to the process requirement as per the standard.
