Innovative battery systems are essential to the performance and reliability of today’s advanced electrified vehicles (xEVs). But in a highly competitive market, xEV manufacturers should strongly consider expanding the scope of their evaluation of battery systems beyond mere compliance with applicable regulations and safety requirements.
Instead, manufacturers should undertake a comprehensive approach to battery system testing and validation, beginning at the earliest stages of the vehicle design and development process. Such an approach can not only help reduce the potential for battery failures, product recalls and the attendant adverse publicity, it can also reduce the risk of delays in the vehicle development timeline, or the need to reinitiate the design process from the beginning.
