Mercedes-Benz Korea obtained the first certificates in the Korean market through a professional review of its used car business processes, from purchase and reconditioning, to sales from TÜV SÜD. Starting from four used car dealerships receiving certificates this year, Mercedes-Benz Korea is planning to complete the certification process of all dealerships by end of 2018.
Mercedes-Benz Korea involved TÜV SÜD, to evaluate its overall used car dealership business processes, from purchase and reconditioning, to sales, in order to verify the reliability of their products, which is one of the most important factors in the used car business.
According to TÜV SÜD’s systematic evaluation criteria, developed based on their rich experience in the used car business, TÜV SÜD evaluated and analyzed four Mercedes-Benz Korea’s used car dealerships. The evaluation covered the entirety of the used car business process. This started from the purchase process of pre-owned cars, after a precise inspection considering 178 check points of accident-free vehicles that had accrued less than 100,000 km of mileage over a 4-year time period, the process of reconditioning to new car level quality; and finally, the pricing and sales strategies. All processes are customized to the respective dealership with TÜV SÜD, providing an individual set of recommendations from the dealership’s perspective. Beyond assessing the “as is” status at the individual dealerships, the combination of analysis, coaching, and training is the best possible approach for ensuring a dealership’s successful future within the market.
As a result of the customized evaluation on various aspects, all four dealership showrooms and service centers were awarded certificates by TÜV SÜD. Some of the identified improvements proposed during the evaluation process will be immediately implemented to enhance business efficiency and customer satisfaction. Re-certification audits will be held every year.
With the completion of the certification process of four used car dealership showrooms this year, Mercedes-Benz Korea aims to achieve certification for all dealership service centers in Korea next year.
“We are impressed by Mercedes-Benz Korea’s professionalism, passion, and drive to position their used car business at the top of the pre-owned automobile market. We are confident that our systematic process of certification will not only result in building consumer trust, but will also have a positive impact on Korea’s used car sector, increasing the overall safety and quality in this segment,” adds Stefan Rentsch, President and CEO of TÜV SÜD Korea.
Michael Koppelmann, Consulting Business Line Manager at TÜV SÜD Auto Plus, says, “I am happy about this international project, as it is a good example of how dealers can become more productive and efficient, checking their own internal processes by bringing in an external partner.”
