About CPRE

CPRE is a certification governed by the International Requirements Engineering Board, Germany.
Systems that are highly dependent on software, play an increasingly important role in industrial and governmental projects. Similarly, there is increasing market demand for innovative, customized, and comprehensive systems that reach the market faster. All successful projects demand effective requirements engineering (RE), because successful systems development depends upon requirements that are accurately and completely defined.

Successfully clearing the CPRE examinations will equip the participants with an independent and internationally recognized qualification

CPRE certification helps in being independent of specific problem domain and solution technologies along with being language independent.

Why CPRE from TÜV SÜD?

The Certification Body of Person in Academy division of TÜV SÜD South Asia is authorized by International Requirements Engineering Board (IREB), Germany to conduct Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering (CPRE) Examinations in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh), Australia, Singapore, Philippines and Middle East Region.

Who should take the certification in Requirements engineering?

  • Requirements Engineers
  • Systems Engineers
  • Software Engineers
  • Business Analysts
  • Interface designers
  • Stakeholder Relation Managers or related persons (stakeholder communication and coordination)
  • Software Developers
  • IT staff like IT Managers, IT Analysts, IT Project Managers, IT quality controllers, Software Developer

What are the levels included in CPRE?

CPRE is a three tier concept:

  1. Foundation Level
  2. Advanced Level
  3. Expert Level

  • Foundation level

It is worthwhile to the advanced beginner in Requirements Engineering to achieve foundation level certificate in requirements engineering as it provides the core knowledge of this topic. Professionals working with Requirements Engineering, Business Analysis, software and systems development, professional who is demanding in terms of quality and professionalism, should go for it. The Foundation Level encompasses the elicitation of requirements with appropriate documentation, requirements verification and validation as well as their management throughout the end-to-end product life-cycle.

    Minimum learning course curriculum

    • Foundations of requirements engineering
    • System and system context
    • Requirements elicitation
    • Requirements documentation
    • Documentation of requirements using natural language
    • Model-based documentation of requirements
    • Requirements validation and negotiation
    • Requirements management
    • Tool support

    Information on exam

    • Multiple-choice examination consisting of 45 questions.
    • A pass is achieved by answering 70% of the questions correctly
    • Mode: Electronic and pen paper based
    • Proctored examination

    Requirements for Foundation level certification:

    • There are no prerequisites to apply for foundation level exam
    • Participation in “Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering - Foundation Level” training at a certified training institute is recommended but not mandatory.
    • Please refer to the official syllabus for detailed information.
    • Refer to the rules of examination before appearing the examination.

    Duration of exam: 75 minutes
Certification: IREB / TÜV SÜD Personal Certification CPRE Foundation Certificate

  • Advance Level

The Advanced Level addresses the holders of the CPRE Foundation Level certificate, who want to deepen their knowledge of particular Requirements Engineering and Business Analysis activities.

The independent modules for CPRE advance level are:

    1) Requirements Elicitation and Consolidation (E&C)

Techniques from the Foundation Level are elaborated here in more detail and further techniques added enabling participants to efficiently elicit and consolidate requirements.

This module addresses the professionals with career profiles like requirements.

    Information on exam

    • Examination is proctored by independent invigilator of TÜV SÜD South Asia.
    • The test consists of two parts:
Part 1: Written exam (on-site exam)
      Part 2: Written assignment (homework)

    Duration of exam:

    • Part 1 is of 75 minutes
    • Part 2 is a written assignment which shall be submitted within a period of 12 months from the date of successful completion of written exam. It must represent a realistic project situation from your working environment and demonstrate that you are capable of applying the acquired RE knowledge.

Passing the written exam by achieving minimum 70% is mandatory to attend the written assignment. The written exam consists of 45 multiple choice questions relating to the following subject areas

    • Skills of the requirements engineer in the field of elicitation and consolidation
    • Requirements sources
    • Elicitation techniques
    • Consolidation techniques

    2. Requirements Modeling

Correct use of graphical models to express functional requirements.

The aim of this module is to convey knowledge about how to model requirements usefully and effectively in requirements engineering. Furthermore, the module explains how requirements modeling can be used in practice (where applicable, in addition to textual requirements) to do the following: to communicate requirements such that they are easier to understand; to make the complexity of the requirements of a system more manageable; and, through the high level of formalization of the requirements modeled, to enable a greater degree of automation in system development activities (for example, quality assurance for the requirements specification, derivation of system test cases).
