Most often, in the wastewater treatment operations at many supplier facilities worldwide, the training and qualifications of operators and technicians are not consistent or robust. The facilities may incur higher treatment costs, leading to wastewater not being treated appropriately.
ZDHC published Wastewater Treatment System Operator Minimum Qualifications Guidelines in February 2021 for competency requirements for water treatment plant operators. The ZDHC Guideline intends to establish standardized minimum expectations for operators' and technicians' education, training, and experience tasked with operating wastewater treatment systems at manufacturing facilities that support the footwear and apparel industries.
This Guideline applies to each facility that owns and/or operates one or more wastewater treatment systems to treat industrial, domestic, or a blend of industrial and domestic wastewater, whether or not the treatment system is located on their property. Operators need to demonstrate their level of qualification through an exam administered by ZDHC and are expected to renew their qualifications every two years. Wastewater treatment system operators and technicians should have adequate qualifications and be adequately trained to meet the expectations of the ZDHC Wastewater Guideline and regulatory compliance. It is expected that only qualified operators will be permitted to operate and maintain wastewater treatment systems.
Language: This e-learning course is available in English, Vietnamese, Bangla, Hindi, and Tamil.
This e-learning course is for wastewater treatment operators and those seeking to build a career as a water and wastewater treatment plant operator. Based on the wastewater treatment system operator qualification training curriculum, as suggested in the ZDHC Guideline, it aims to provide the necessary understanding to enable the participants to demonstrate they can meet the expectations of ZDHC Guidelines and pass the exams.
As a part of the course curriculum, operator competency is tested at multiple levels (Level 1 - 5, and Level 1A - 5A for those operators who work on wastewater treatment systems that implement activated sludge technology) depending on the scope of individual responsibilities in the ZDHC Guidelines.
Basic physical/chemical treatment is the fundamental knowledge required for all operator qualification levels. Online training course I. Basic Physical/Chemical Treatment is hosted on the TÜV SÜD Academy platform and consists of 12 modules. Topics to be covered in this course include:
The training course consists of 12 modules, and each module will take around 1 hour to complete. Below is the process to complete the course and receive an internationally recognised e-certificate of attendance from TÜV SÜD and Level 1 Qualification certificate from ZDHC.
