Certification mark for LED PACKAGES

  

 

Scope:

This certification mark can be applied to LED (Light Emitting Diode) module and package which can be used in various light source of vehicle.

LED is used not only for switch indicator, interior light, but also for headlamps, DRL(Daytime Running Light), fog-lamps, signalling lamps, Rear Combination Lamp that require elevated reliability. LED have higher efficiency and longer life-time compare to existing filament bulb and HID (High Intensity Discharge Lamp). Also, the size of light source is small so it gives more flexibility to lamp design.  

LED used for vehicle requires high reliability and it needs to be stable in more harsh condition than general lighting. It can be assessed according to AEC Q102.

Basis of certification:

The testing item is LED package which using vehicle component (ex. LEDs of Interior light in car). This LED package will be performed test according AEC Q-102 and parts of UL 8750. Main standard AEC Q-102 consists of reliability testing.

Main testing of reliability testing are as below;

  • Endurance of high temperature
  • Endurance of vibration
  • Endurance of solder heat
  • Endurance of mechanical shock
  • Endurance of gas (ex. Hydrogen Sulphide)
  • Endurance of static (ex. HBM (Human Body Model) and CDM (Charged Device Model))

And parts of testing of UL 8750 are:

  • Electric voltage withstand test (between LED and case)
  • Thermal aging test. 

In conclusion, it is the evaluation and certification of the reliability test (verifies that the LED package can work well even in harsh environments).

  • Safety tested

    The voluntary certification mark with the statement “Safety tested” is issued for products, indicating that the product was tested and certified by the independent third-party organisation of TÜV SÜD Product Service for conformity with the essential technical safety requirements.

  • Production monitored

    Periodic surveillance and/or monitoring of the manufacture of a product constitutes the basic premise for certification that includes the award of a certification mark. Certification always requires product testing and regular factory inspections.

    As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD Product Service verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product testing.

    In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured. Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will become invalid and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.

  • Reliability tested
    • Climatic test
      Evaluate the performance of LED such as luminous flux maintenance, Color coordinate and Forward voltage based on different temperature, humidity and environmental change which can be happen in vehicle.
      Condition for this test would be high temperature operation life, wet high temperature operating life, power temperature cycling, temperature cycle, dew, pulsed operation life etc. and LED need to meet the performance requirement before and after this condition. 

    • Corrosive resistance(Chemical) test 
      The product has been tested for the user against possible harmful chemicals.
      - Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S)
      - Flowing Mixed Gas (H2S, SO2, NO2, Cl2) 

    • Electrical Environment stress test
      Evaluate the tolerance to external electrical stress such as static electricity.

    •  Vibration/Mechanical shock test 
      Evaluate the LED performance after the vibration and shock which can be happen in vehicle and its operation condition.
