Certification mark for E-Mobility

Scope:

This certification mark refers to the testing of plugs, socket outlets, vehicle connectors and vehicle inlets for conductive, i.e. wired, charging of electric vehicles. The charging systems have the following maximum voltages:
- 690 V AC 50 Hz to 60 Hz, at a max. rated current of 250 A,
- 1500 V DC at a max. rated current of 400 A

Basis of certification:

The test method developed by TÜV SÜD is based on the following standards: IEC/EN 62196-1, IEC/EN 62196-2, IEC/EN 62196-3 (Plugs, socket-outlets, vehicle connectors and vehicle inlets – Conductive charging of electric vehicles – Part 1: General requirements; Part 2: Dimensional compatibility and interchangeability requirements for a.c. pin and contact-tube accessories; Part 3: Dimensional compatibility and interchangeability requirements for d.c. and a.c./d.c. pin and contact-tube vehicle couplers).

Key words of the certification mark:

Electrical tests conducted: The product certified by TÜV SÜD was tested for electrical safety and for its capability to withstand short-circuit currents induced when the component is separated from the power supply. Testing also covered correct design of the electrical connections and the effectiveness of the locking devices during charging.

Mechanical tests conducted:

All rubber and thermoplastic materials included in the certified product were tested for their resistance to ageing. In addition, the products were tested for cable strain relief, the IP rating (which indicates the degree of protection against the ingress of liquids and solids into the component), corrosion and resistance to rusting of metal parts, the equipment’s resistance to damage when driven over by a vehicle, and the correct design of the component.

Scope:

This certification mark applies to the equipment for the wireless transfer of electric power on-board and off-board electric vehicles at standard AC voltages (according to IEC 60038) up to 1000 V and DC voltages up to 1500 V. The electric power is supplied to the RESS (rechargeable energy storage system) and/or other electric systems. Electric road vehicles are all road-vehicles, including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which are powered fully or partially by rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS). The term does not apply to trolley buses, rail vehicles, industrial trucks and vehicles designed primarily for off-road use.

Basis of certification:

The test method developed by TÜV SÜD is based on the standard IEC 61980-1 (Electric vehicles wireless power transfer (WPT) systems – Part 1: General requirements).

Key words of the certification mark:

Electrical safety tested:

The product certified by TÜV SÜD was tested for electrical safety when used by the user. The product was also tested for electromagnetic compatibility.

Mechanical safety tested:

The TÜV SÜD certification mark with this statement indicates that the certified product is able to withstand mechanical influences. In addition the product was tested for its resistance to crushing when driven over by a vehicle and its IP rating, i.e. the degree of protection against the ingress of liquids and solids into the component.

Scope:

This certification mark refers to conductive systems used for on-board and off-board equipment for charging electric road vehicles at standard AC voltages up to 1000 V and DC voltages up to 1500 V. Electric road vehicles comprise all road-vehicles including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles which are powered fully or partially by rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS). The term does not apply to trolley buses, rail vehicles, industrial trucks and vehicles designed primarily for off-road use.

Basis of certification:

The test method developed by TÜV SÜD is based on the following standards: IEC/EN 61851-1 IEC/EN 61851-22 or IEC/EN 61851-23 (Electrical equipment of electric road vehicles – electric vehicle conductive charging system – Part 1: General requirements; Part 22: AC electric vehicle charging station; Part 23: DC electric vehicle charging station).

In addition the product was tested for its chemical resistance to liquids and its IP rating, i.e. the degree of protection against the ingress of liquids and solids into the component.

  • Shoes
The certification mark is awarded to shoes certified by TÜV SÜD (see scope).
  • Production monitored

Periodic surveillance and/or monitoring of the manufacture of a product constitutes the basic premise for certification that includes the award of a certification mark. Certification always requires product testing and regular factory inspections.

As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD Product Service verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product testing.

In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured. Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will become invalid (withdrawn) and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.

  • Fit tested

TÜV SÜD Product Service tests the shoe lasts that form the basis of shoe manufacturing for various criteria, including length and heel width. Subsequently, the interior dimensions of the prototype shoes manufactured on the basis of the lasts are verified.

  • Regular product suveillance

At regular intervals certified products will be bought in the market to perform spot checks and verify that the product is still meeting the requirements defined on the certification mark.

  • Tested for harmful substances

For the statement "Tested for harmful substances", TÜV SÜD tested the product for hazardous substances. The test is based on legal requirements, specific national requirements and own specifications.
