TÜV SÜD South Asia receives NABCB accreditation for automotive cybersecurity certification according to ISO/SAE 21434

Mumbai. TÜV SÜD South Asia, a subsidiary of TÜV SÜD Group, has received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) for cybersecurity certification according to the international standard ISO/SAE 21434. The accreditation enables vehicle manufacturers and suppliers in India and the wider South Asia region to obtain accredited automotive cybersecurity certification from a locally based team.

ISO/SAE 21434 sets out cybersecurity requirements for road vehicles across their entire lifecycle, from concept and design through production, operation, maintenance and decommissioning. It requires organizations to identify and manage cybersecurity risks systematically, including through threat analysis and risk assessment (TARA), and to extend these practices to their supply chain.

The accreditation comes at an important time for the Indian automotive industry. Vehicles are becoming increasingly software-defined and connected, and electric vehicles add further interfaces such as charging infrastructure and over-the-air updates. At the same time, the automotive industry standards AIS-189 (cybersecurity) and AIS-190 (software update management) align Indian requirements with UN Regulations No. 155 and No. 156 and bring cybersecurity management into the vehicle approval process. Accredited ISO/SAE 21434 certification gives OEMs and Tier-1 to Tier-3 suppliers independent evidence that their cybersecurity processes meet internationally recognized requirements, supporting both domestic compliance and access to global markets.

“Connected cars bring connected threats,” says Vaibhav Sharma, Head of Automotive Cybersecurity, TÜV SÜD South Asia. “With this accreditation, Indian manufacturers and suppliers no longer need to look abroad for accredited ISO/SAE 21434 certification. Our team can support them locally, from TARA and CSMS readiness through to certification, as AIS-189 and AIS-190 take effect.”

In addition to ISO/SAE 21434 certification, TÜV SÜD South Asia offers readiness support for AIS-189 and AIS-190, cybersecurity management system (CSMS) assessments based on UN R155, software update management and ISO 24089 certification, TISAX® assessments, penetration testing of in-vehicle systems, ECUs and EV chargers, and automotive cybersecurity training.

This accreditation reflects the technical expertise within the TÜV SÜD Group and builds on the Group’s international cybersecurity network. TÜV SÜD South Asia, together with TÜV SÜD’s global team, is ready to support the automotive industry in securing vehicles against cyber threats that are growing as vehicles become more connected.
