Mango, popularly known as the ‘King of Fruits’ is cultivated on a large scale, producing nearly 12.5 million tons and contributing to over 40% of the global production.
For a country like India, where the total export of mangoes is nearly 80 thousand tons, the variety of this fruit makes it special, to substantiate the high standards of quality in it. As a potent protector against several ailments and diseases, mangoes are mainly grown in tropical and subtropical regions from sea level to an altitude of 1,500 m, with temperatures around 27˚C.
India exports mangoes to over 50 countries across the globe. UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, UK, US Kuwait, Singapore, Malaysia and Bangladesh together account for 97% of the total exports of fresh mangoes from India.
The usage of various pesticides and stringent regulations make export practices rather challenging. Testing, inspection and certification of mangoes and mango products ensures that country regulatory requirements are met and delivery of quality products is taken care of. Facilities like hot water treatment, vapour heat treatment and irradiation facilities further ensure compliance to residue monitoring and traceability networking.
