What is the ASME pressure vessel inspection code?

A leading standard for pressure equipment and components worldwide, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code) provides requirements for manufacturer certification and quality assurance. It sets rules for the design, materials, manufacturing, inspection, testing and operation of boilers and pressure vessels (including power boilers, heating boilers, nuclear facility components, fibre-reinforced plastic pressure vessels and transport tanks).

Why is the ASME pressure vessel inspection code important?

The ASME Code is recognised in over 100 countries. Manufacturing, repairing or altering your pressure equipment in accordance with the Code helps you to access opportunities in these markets. Affixing the ASME certification mark to your pressure equipment inspires greater confidence among your business partners, end users and authorities. The mark is regarded as the hallmark of acceptance that indicates conformity to the Code.

TÜV SÜD helps to ensure that your nuclear pressure equipment comply with the ASME code

TÜV SÜD is a partner of ARISE BIIC – an ASME-accredited U.S. Authorized Inspection Agency (AIA). Authorized via ARISE BIIC, our ASME Inspectors (AIs) offer comprehensive and efficient support across all aspects of the ASME Code.

TÜV SÜD is accredited as an Inspection Body Type A based on DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012. Our services cover the nuclear part of the ASME Code (Section III and XI), ASME NQA-1 (Quality Assurance Requirements for Nuclear Facility Applications), as well as the non-nuclear sections, as follows: – Section II (Materials) – Section III (Nuclear Facility Components) – Section V (Non-Destructive Examination) – Section VIII, Div. 1, 2 and 3 (Pressure Vessels) – Section IX (Welding and Brazing Qualifications) – Section XI (Rules for in-service Inspection of NPP Components)

Our ASME Code services include:

  • Advisory, codes and standards engineering

  • Support in establishing a quality assurance (QA) programme and quality control (QC) system according to the ASME Code and ASME NQA-1
  • Support in ASME certification audit preparation
  • Review and acceptance of quality programmes and procedures
  • Evaluation of equivalence to different codes and standards for components
  • Application for manufacturer certification
  • Design calculations and design review

  • Review and preparation of calculations as per the ASME Code
  •  Welding, brazing and NDT advisory
  • Assistance with procedures for welding, brazing and non-destructive examination
  • NDT advice by ASNT inspectors
  • Authorised inspection

  • Inspection of components to be delivered with the ASME certification mark
