In 2018, the Panamanian Ministry of Commerce and Industry approved the Technical Regulation on energy efficiency and labelling of refrigerators and freezers. This regulation requires products manufactured, imported, distributed and marketed within Panama must meet the requirements of minimum energy efficiency levels of domestic refrigerators and freezers with the labelling.
This regulation applies to domestic refrigerators, refrigerators-freezers up to 1104 dm3 (39ft3) and domestic freezers up to 850 dm3 (30ft3) operated by hermetic motor compressor. Commercial vertical or horizontal freezers are excluded from this regulation.
The products must comply with the Energy Efficiency Index and the test methods specified in the Standard of DGNTI-COPANIT 511:2017 and affix an energy efficiency label to show the information on the energy efficiency index calculated in accordance with Standard DGNTI-COPANIT 511:2017. In Annex A, there is a template of the energy efficiency label provided.
The regulation also defines the conformity assessment procedure that a certificate of conformity will be issued by any certification bodies accredited with the National Accreditation Council.
The regulation will be in force 18 months after its publication which is 28 August 2019.
