Lifting Equipment Operator Training

- Regulatory Compliance: Our training helps employers satisfy their responsibilities under the OPAL Lifting Equipment Operator Certification scheme for Oman and adheres to the guidance provided in the Internationally recognised HSE’s Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) L117: Rider Operated Lift Trucks – Operator Training and Safe Use. We also cover the principles of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).
- LOLER Mandates: LOLER places duties on companies that own, operate, or control lifting equipment. We ensure operators understand that all lifting operations must be properly planned by a competent person, appropriately supervised, and carried out safely.
- Equipment Versatility: Our material handling courses cover numerous vehicle categories defined by the Accrediting Bodies Association for Workplace Transport (ABA Workplace Transport Groupings). This includes:
- Various Counterbalance lift trucks (Electric and I.C.E.).
- Reach & straddle trucks (including Rider Electric Reach & straddle trucks 3-8m lift and over 8m lift).
- Rough terrain lift trucks (such as masted lift trucks and variable reach/tele trucks).
- Container handling trucks (e.g., Container Straddle carriers and Telescopic container handlers).
- Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP) (Static Vertical, Static Boom, Mobile Vertical, and Mobile Boom).
- Safety and Inspection: Operators are trained on crucial safety principles, including the requirement that lifting equipment must be fit for purpose, marked with its Safe Working Load (SWL), and subject to statutory periodic 'thorough examination'.
Earth Moving Machinery Operator Training
We utilise the latest RTITB Instructors’ Guides to bring certified safety standards to earth moving machinery operations. This allows companies using RTITB materials for materials handling courses to apply the same high standards across their full range of training requirements.
The scope of our Earth Moving Machinery Operator Training includes:
- Wheeled Loading Shovel.
- 180° Excavators (Under 5 tonne and Over 5 tonne).
- 360° Excavators (Tracked/Wheeled, Under 10t and Over 10 tonne).
- Skid Steer Loaders (also known as ‘Bobcats’).
By using a single RTITB Accredited provider for these machine types, employers benefit from quicker and simpler arrangements for multiple types of operator training. This training is essential as earth moving machinery is heavy duty and can be dangerous if used improperly.
Confidence Through Centralised Registration (NORS)
Successful completion of our training programmes is validated and recorded on the National Operator Registration Scheme (NORS). NORS is RTITB’s centralised registration, certification, and validation system for operators of lift trucks and other mechanical handling equipment.
- Validation and Certification: NORS registration lasts for three years. We issue operators who successfully complete the training with a digital eCard endorsed by OPAL.
- Employer Assurance: NORS makes it easy for employers to identify properly trained RTITB operators via their registration number and verify the details of their training.
- Maintaining Competence: The NORS registration renewal notification supports employers in ensuring their operators receive refresher training as required by guidance from the HSE.
