ABOUT THE COURSE

The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award is an introductory level qualification that looks at health and safety in the workplace. It is suitable for anyone who needs to understand the principles of health and safety as part of their job; this would include team leaders and supervisors, HR professionals, facilities managers and those training young people in a working environment. This qualification provides a valuable overview and is the first step on the NEBOSH qualification pathway.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award looks at everyday solutions for general workplace health and safety issues. When you have completed the qualification, you will be able to:

• Understand why health and safety need to be managed, ensuring effective processes are in place
• Inspect the workplace, recognising common hazards, evaluating risk, recommending control measures and assigning actions
• Understand why incidents happen and how to investigate them

WHAT IS THE COURSE METHODOLOGY?

The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award is a 3-day course that can be delivered either in a classroom (face-to-face) or online (virtual) format and includes one NEBOSH assessment. The course includes a variety of training tools such as digital learning, tests, and other interactive exercises to enhance delivery of theoretical knowledge.

HOW IS THIS COURSE ASSESSED?

To achieve the qualification, learners must complete and pass the Unit HSA1 assessment. This assessment is a workplace health and safety review which should be carried out in the learner’s own workplace. After completing the course, you will be asked to complete a workplace health and safety review which:

• Consider how health and safety is managed, and how it could be done better
• Identifies the health and safety hazards present, how they are controlled and if the risk can be reduced
• Selects the most important hazard for improvement using moral, legal and financial reasons.

• Exam date: Assessment is as per NEBOSH standard exam date (once a month)
• Exam results: Results will be received within 15 working days
• Assessment: Practical assessment approximately 3 hours
• Certification:
  • Certificate of Successful Completion: NEBOSH Certificate will be awarded only to the participants who completed all parts of the assessment and achieved the 75% markings and is normally within 20 working days of the result date.
  • Certificate of Attendance: TÜV SÜD Certificate will be awarded if the participants completed the full number of tuition hours for the training course, in preparation for the NEBOSH assessment.

This qualification has been accredited, and credit rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and sits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).
