This course has been developed to provide learners with a foundation of environmental and sustainability knowledge to build upon. The wide range of environmental, sustainability and governance principles covered ensures that learners appreciate and understand the breadth of the sustainability agenda, and the focus on specific management tools and skills provides learners with an introduction to practical application that they will need when working within this arena.
What will you learn?
The Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management (FCIEM) has been developed in line with the IEMA Associate Membership Standard to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to initiate a career in environment/sustainability, specifically focusing on environmental management.
At the end of this five-day course, you will be able to:
- Outline the implications of global trends for the environment, for society, for the economy and for organizations
- Outline sustainable business/governance principles and their relationship with organizations, products and services
- Outline environmental principles and their relationship with organizations, products and services
- Outline major policy and legislation and their implications for organizations, products and services
- Outline major tools, techniques, systems and practices used to improve sustainability performance
- Outline the role of innovation and other leading practices in developing sustainable products and services and providing sustainable solutions
- Collect data, perform analysis, and evaluate information
- Research and plan to provide sustainable solutions
- Deliver effective communication and capture feedback

What is the mode of the training?
The IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management training can be executed in either mode, classroom or virtual.

Is VILT a live training, or do I get access to watch pre-recorded videos?
Pre-recorded videos are not available or permitted. This is available in a live virtual instructor-led training (VILT) session where you can interact with the trainer.

Are there any prerequisites to attending the training?
There are no entry requirements for this training.

How are the examinations hosted?
Open book online exam.

What is the duration of the examination?
A total of 1 hour (60 minutes) is allotted for the exam.

How are participants assessed during the course?
Written exam: Participants must appear for an online examination (open book) at the end of the course.

What is the passing criterion for a written examination?
Participants must achieve an overall score of 21 marks (70%) to pass the exam successfully.

Will I be awarded a certificate for attending the training course?
- Certificate of Successful Completion: Will be awarded only if an overall score of 21 marks (70%) is achieved in the written online exam.
- Certificate of Attendance: Will be awarded only if the attendance requirements are satisfied and if the participant is unsuccessful in the online final examination.

Can I retake the online final exam? Under what conditions is this possible?
Participants who fail the online examination may re-sit the examination by re-registering through TÜV SÜD and sitting the examination at the next available date. There is no limit to the number of re-sits a participant can take.

Will I be charged for an online exam retake?
The first re-sit can be taken free of charge but thereafter re-sit fees apply. You will have to contact one of the TÜV SÜD representatives for the exam retake details.
