ISO 14001:2026 Transition course

Course Description

TÜV SÜD’s ISO 14001:2026 Transition Training provides participants with a clear understanding of the changes from ISO 14001:2015 to ISO 14001:2026.

The course offers a structured overview of the updated standard, highlighting key changes, new concepts and requirements to help participants understand their implications for an existing Environmental Management System (EMS).

Course Objective

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Explain the differences between ISO 14001:2026 and ISO 14001:2015.
• Interpret the new concepts, requirements, and recommendations of ISO 14001:2026.
• Plan and implement the necessary changes to an existing environmental management system to ensure conformity to the requirements of ISO 14001:2026.

Course Outline

ISO 14001:2026 is an evolutionary update rather than a complete rewrite. The core EMS model and clause framework remain consistent with the 2015 edition, while the updated standard introduces greater clarity, emphasis and more explicit expectations in several key areas.

This course guides participants through these changes and their implications for an existing EMS.

Key areas of emphasis include:

• Climate change mitigation and adaptation
• Biodiversity and ecosystem protection
• Environmental conditions as external context
• Change management within the EMS
• Integration of the EMS into business processes
• Reliability and availability of environmental information
• Control of externally provided processes, products and services

To make the changes easier to understand, the course uses five change classifications:

• Addition: A genuinely new clause or requirement not present in the 2015 edition.
• Expanded: Additional detail or structure added to an existing requirement.
• Strengthened: An existing requirement expressed more explicitly or with greater emphasis.
• Clarified: Wording refined to reduce ambiguity without changing the original intent.
• Unchanged: No substantive change, with editorial updates only.

Relevant changes covered in the course are assessed using these classifications, helping participants quickly understand the nature and significance of each update.

Prerequisite

Participants are expected to have prior knowledge of ISO 14001:2015.

Those without an existing ISO 14001 qualification should consider the full ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management Systems Specialist course.

Methodology

The course combines knowledge-based presentations with discussions, practical exercises and case studies. Approximately two-thirds of the course is dedicated to activity-based learning.

Short quizzes are included throughout the course following each module to reinforce learning and help participants consolidate their understanding of ISO 14001:2026.

A classroom session will be held in Qatar on 15 October 2026, offering participants the opportunity to learn in person through instructor-led discussions, exercises and activities.
