What is electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing?

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing measures the ability of equipment or systems to function satisfactorily in their electromagnetic environment without introducing intolerable electromagnetic disturbance to anything in that environment. In other words, electromagnetic compatibility testing, or EMC testing, enables you to ensure that your electrical or electronic device does not emit electromagnetic interference and it functions as expected amid various electromagnetic elements.

The two types of EMC testing include immunity testing and emissions testing. Immunity testing measures a device’s reaction when exposed to electromagnetic noise and other interruptions. On the other hand, electromagnetic interference involves measuring the amount of electromagnetic noise a device generates during normal functioning.
